You'll hear us say it until we're blue in the face: Layering is the key to comfort in the outdoors.
The story continues with jackets. When it's really cold out, start with a fleece jacket, then layer with a down or synthetic insulated jacket. If the weather turns nasty, you may need a hard shell to keep the rain or snow out. If you don't need a full-fledged rain jacket, or are engaging in an active pursuit like ice climbing, try a soft shell jacket.
Soft shells provide varying degrees of protection against wind and water, but are designed primarily for maximum breathability and comfort. Vests are great for maintaining core warmth on cool Spring mornings, as are wind shells. We also carry quite a few casual jackets to wear around town. We also carry a few wool jackets, which will keep you comfortable through a wide range of temperatures, as nature intended! Wool is also an annually renewable resource.
